Illini Mentor Program Child Education Event: November 2013
A three day program geared toward elementary school students to teach them about healthy eating. As a team we planned four fun and interactive activities to engages the children including: food trivia, make your own MyPlate, red light green light food style and sugar content of foods. I personally made a reusable MyPlate activity with over 200 laminated food pieces from each food group and multiple ethnicities. These resources will be available for continued use and education.
Reusable Activity Materials: November 2013
Build Your Own Plate: 300 laminated food pieces from all types and cultures children's can use to build then own plate based on MyPlate examples and recommendations.
EatSmart University Dining Event: September 2013
I aided in planning the event by meeting with head dining members and giving feedback on my experiences using the dining halls and working with other students.The goal was to really engage the students and have them learn about the healthy choice available to them. During the program I promoted the University of Illinois food nutrition facts application, EatSmart, so students can make healthy choices!
Summer Intern, Women Infants and Children at Champaign-Urbana Public Health District: Summer 2013
I aided in entering patient information into the online medical records. I also shadowed WIC nutritionists as they met with families and consulted on meal plan choices and blood lead levels.
Cunningham Children's Home Healthy Cooking Class: April 2013
Taught a cooking class to the house of transitional teenagers who are about to graduate their residential home and move to living independently. We prepared three foods and allowed the teens to do most of the cutting and cooking giving guidance where needed. In the end they all had a more positive view of cooking and really enjoyed the experience.
Cunningham Children's Home Event Aid: April 2013 & July 2013
Helped provide transportation, answered questions and took photos at a Kids EatRight Presentation by Lisa Shkoda.
Cunningham Children's Home Healthy Breakfast Presentation: March 2013
Led a low cost healthy breakfast preparation station to a group of transitional teenagers who are about to graduate their residential home and move to living independently. This hands on activity supplemented Lisa Shkoda's presentation on healthy breakfast and the importance of eating together.
